Terms & Conditions
The Virgin Islands People’s Movement is a political party established and operating under the laws of the Virgin Islands. The Party is an unincorporated association and does not have a separate legal personality. We are responsible for the personal information we hold about you, and we handle it in line with applicable data protection law in the Virgin Islands, including the Data Protection Act.
If you have questions about this notice or your information, use the details in the How to reach us section below.
We collect information in three ways. The first is information you give us directly, such as when you sign up for updates, register as a supporter, contact us, attend or register for an event, or make a donation. This can include:
The second is information we collect automatically when you visit the website, such as your device type, browser, IP address, and how you move through the pages. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies. The third is information from other sources. To keep our records accurate, we may combine what you give us with information that is already publicly available, such as the electoral register.
We use your information only for legitimate purposes connected with the Party’s work. That includes:
We will only send you marketing or campaign communications in line with your choices and applicable law, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
If you make a donation, we are required to keep records of it under the Elections Act, and to confirm that you are a permissible donor. We hold donation records for at least six years. Some donation records must be made available for public inspection or provided to the Supervisor of Elections, as the law requires. Our Terms and Conditions explain who counts as a permissible donor.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share it only in these situations:
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to help it work properly, to remember your preferences, and to understand how visitors use the site. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the website may not work as well if you do. Where the law requires it, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies.
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes set out in this notice, or for as long as the law requires. Donation and financial records are kept for at least six years, as the Elections Act requires. Supporter records are kept while they are needed to administer the Party and communicate with you, and we remove them when they are no longer needed or when you ask us to.
We take reasonable steps to keep your information accurate, secure, and confidential. If a breach affecting your personal information happens, we will act quickly to contain it, notify you where appropriate, and report it to the relevant authorities where the law requires.
You have the right to ask us what information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct anything that is wrong. You can ask to be removed from our supporter list or to stop receiving communications at any time. To do any of these, contact us using the details below. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on a request.
Our website and communications are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
The website may link to sites run by others, including social media platforms and payment providers. This notice does not cover those sites. When you use them, their own privacy policies apply, and we encourage you to read them.
We may update this notice from time to time. When we do, we will post the revised version on the website and change the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted where it is reasonable to do so.
If you have questions about this notice, want to see what we hold about you, or want to be removed from our supporter list, get in touch and we will help.
