In His Words

What I stand for.

I spent more than twenty years inside the health of these Virgin Islands. I stand for a country that takes care of its own, the way it once knew how. Healthcare you can reach before you are in crisis. A clinic close to home. A hospital that works. A system that meets you where you live instead of waiting for you to arrive too late.

But I have learned that health is never only about hospitals. It begins on the plate, in the pay packet, in the home. A country where the basics work – water that comes when you turn the tap, paperwork that moves, food a family can afford – is a healthier country. These things are connected, and we have governed for too long as if they were not.

I stand for the working people who pay into a system every two weeks and deserve to know it will be there when they need it. What we pay in should be honoured by what we get back.

And most of all, I stand for raising a generation that understands its own health, and a country our young people want to come home to build, own, and lead.

The Platform

What Craig stands for.

01

Healthcare People Can Trust

Craig has worked inside the operating theatre, served on teams behind the territory’s first kidney transplant and first open-heart surgeries, and cared for critical Covid-19 patients when the stakes were highest. He knows healthcare is not a slogan; it is whether a mother gets care on time, whether a senior can afford treatment, and whether a family must pay twice to survive. Craig will fight to rebalance NHI, strengthen specialist care closer to home, and rebuild public confidence in a system that should serve patients before paperwork.

02

Government That Delivers

As Vice-President of the BVI Medical Doctors Association, Craig helped lead the 2017 action that secured long-overdue raises for government medical staff by holding the system to its own promises. That is the standard he will bring to public office: water that flows, permits that move, roads and services that are maintained, and a public service that measures success by results delivered to people, not delays explained to them.

03

A Future Built for Virgin Islanders

Craig came home when staying away would have been easier. He believes the next generation should not have to leave to find opportunity, build a life, or own a piece of the land they love. His platform puts Virgin Islanders first: a VI Starter at 18, Crown Land lots protected for Virgin Islander ownership, and a 20% participation value returned to the people when developments receive public support. We did not inherit these islands to price our children out of them.
Background

Who Craig is.

Craig Stoutt was born at Peebles Hospital in 1973 and raised in Long Bay, Tortola. The son of Elmore Stoutt OBE, he grew up in a household of educators, grounded in service, discipline, and community. He played the organ at Carrot Bay Methodist Church, became valedictorian of the BVI High School class of 1989, graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of the Virgin Islands, earned his Doctor of Medicine at UWI Mona in 2011, and returned home to serve.

For nine years, Craig served as an Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist at Peebles Hospital. Since 2012, he has served as the sole Anaesthesiologist at the Bougainvillea Clinic. He completed two terms on the BVI Medical and Dental Council, including service as Chairman, and served as Vice-President of the BVI Medical Doctors Association. His life’s work has been about responsibility under pressure. He is running because the same seriousness we expect in an emergency room is the seriousness our country deserves in government.
